SSR/LSR question

Hey all,
Poking around locally today i found an all matching bring back condition mauser 40 code 1942 K98, with 3 holes drilled in the left side and stock cut as it would be for a LSR.. My question is did mauser ever participate in the SSR/LSR production? and if it could be a fake based on manufacturer code. Its not at all over priced for an all matching rifle... also barrel is marked do 3 with 3 waffs and an astrict in a line.. but would love some reccomendations from the sniper pros on here! thanks!

Sam, as far as we know, Mauser never assembled short or long side rail snipers at the factory. I would highly question any such rifle.

Now, did the SS or other organizations obtain Mauser made rifles that they then made into Short side rails? I believe this is possible and have seen one rifle that would support this (a commercial Mauser banner rifle).

I would say no Mauser assembled Long side rail rifles, factory or depot. Hope this helps!
