660 1939

My father in law brought me an unexpected surprise. This rifle was his fathers and was a battle field pick up. From my research on the rifle it’s pretty rare. Bare with me I’m trying to post pictures. Lol

Yes this is a very scarce rifle it looks like it still has the original sling with it as well. What's even better it's a no letter block so this was the first batch of rifles for the year of 1939 from Steyr. I'll be honest I don't think I've seen one with that low of a serial number for 1939. The biggest hurt is how the stock was cut down and modified I got a feeling it was probably duffle cut and apart of the wood was lost or was damaged.

Yes It was a duffel cut. My wife’s grandfather brought it home. And yes that is the original sling. The only piece of metal on it that does not match is the front swivel. What you see is all I have. The wood and metal that is missing is gone I’m afraid.

Nice G12/34, It’s also been referred to as a G29O. There are a few members here who could help you repair the stock and handguard. You would need bands and a bayonet lug; not easy to come buy but thankfully the barrel wasn’t cut down.

I’ve gone back and forth on having it restored or leaving it the way it is. And since this is a war trophy from my kids great grandad, I think I’ll leave it alone. He deer hunted with this rifle for years. The supper low serial number and matching bolt along with the history behind the gun is just a bonus for us.
