    Default Restoration help!

Need some advice. I'm mostly a WWII kreigsmodell guy, but I dabble in the occasional G98 as I also collect WWI field gear. I picked up a really nice all matching Danzig 1917 that a previous owner "cleaned" a bit - particularly the bolt body and buttplate. Seems there was some rust and he buffed it off which left a polished surface. Rest of the metal finish is really nice - about 80% with a nice patina - but the buffed areas really bring it down. Is there a way to give the metal a softer, more compatible look? Will never be perfect but hoping to make it less glaring. Thx John p

Hard to say without seeing it in hand but the first thing I might do would be to refinish the metal if its buffed.
Then maybe experiment with some acid to knock down the shine.

Its all in the metal prep..

Thx was thinking along the same lines! It looks like he used a buffing wheel. Oh if we would just leave these things alone! Fortunately they are discrete parts that should blend back in once refinished.
