The four digit number most likely his is unit serial nummer.

Tks Peter. "Exotic freshie" is term coined by the waftarded to legitimize psychedelic fakes. :googlie I think the liner writing may be GI art. Looks like "1944" is the date and "LB" may have been the GI.

Like the two types of wire...the one type looks like house electrical wire. I like how the liner band has reacted to the helmet (battery effect) :thumbsup:
 
The "1944" is very much done in German style of the period, plus the "." after. I might go with Peter and say this is his service number.
 
Could be Jack, or stripped commo wire. Everything had copper wire in it. I guess the coincidence of "1944" had me thinking that, and I've not seen that large of liner inking in that style before.
