The straight bolt (as you noted) and the sling bar attached vertically along the butt stock dish-out is what makes it look Polish to me.

Soldiers of the 1st Brigade tenkovskoy People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ) and the tank M5 'Stuart' American production outside the Yugoslav town of Široki Brijeg (Široki Brijeg, the territory of modern Bosnia and Herzegovina). A soldier in the foreground on the left armed captured German 7.92 mm Mauser (Karabiner 98 kurz), soldiers right - captured Italian 6.5 mm carbine Moschetto per Cavalleria M1891 (Carcano).

Wonder if these two guys poached from that capture pile pic I posted?

Very cool pic!

I heard that when they filmed 'Force 10 from Navarone' in post-war Yugoslavia, they didn't need to bring in German arms for the actors because the JNA already had massive amounts of them in inventory.

Same for Kelly's Heroes - I think the Yugoslav's had a ton of M4's still left in inventory. While a comedy, that movie actually tried to at least be period correct to some extent.

Couple more lid capture piles - don't think these have been posted before. Second pic is New Zealander's in Southern Italy. Not sure of the location of first pic.

Maybe it's just me, but after acquiring a dead soldiers boots, I don't think I would leave his body face down in the mud. Sad...

Their wasn't much chivalry in the battle of the bulge.

It also has to be said that German soldiers which were captured with US Army boots weren't handled with silk gloves.
