this is an a typical beaded luftschutz lid issued to the police.. Not really a lightweight civic and not a combat police either. Kind of a mutt. Its getting rave reviews elsewhere and I figured I post it here.. Since I didnt get one from my buddie GeorgeR I found one on my own...

Thats a nice lid..

I never got into combat helmets due to the humping..

Instead I started buying these to fill the void...

..

Likey

I don't usually go for these types of lids but this one I would own in a heartbeat. With the military type liner I would feel comfortable believing that some "active" unit wore these. Nice overall toned, untouched look to this one.

thanks..

I was very happy to get this one.. Its hard to say why theses were used.?? Shortage of m34 type or shortage of m35 combat type. Its a cross breed for sure. Best part is I paid a luftschutz price for it after I told him it wasnt a combat police helmet.. Which is technicly true..

I have always liked these odd helmets, and yours is a great looking example. It has the Orpo decals, and it has a military liner, so it probably saw service with an Orpo "combat" unit IMO.

Some say these are normal helmets that had the bead added after the helmet failed inspection. It would seem like more trouble than it would be worth to invest the additional tooling and machine time to add a bead to a rejected helmet, but who knows. :googlie

????

well, we are talking about the germans..ANyway in a metal shop that tooling would be avail on hand.. Anyone that has seen a sheetmetal shop knows this. Adding the bead would take 2 minutes tops. Then it couldnt be mistaken as a combat lid. I would love to know the inspection process of the stahlhelm.

Wayne you know how I am on police items :googlie, mine is a M40 all the way from Nettuno Italy, nice lid by the way, same pattern as mine I will get some pics of her. GR

police stuff..

I Know I was just rubbing it in.. Ive been wanting one since I saw you;res and couldnt get it..But, I couldnt be happier with the heer lid anyways..I think I had to give the guy a whole 350 us dollars for this one..Not bad eeh.

I would like to get back in touch with you and see what we can work out on some other items..

I once picked up this exact type helmet from a fellow, down to the liner/decals. The only differences are mine was shellaced and had a Luftshutz stamp inside the liner on the backside. Neat helmet!

Beaded helmet or just a helmet band?
