    Default E. u. F. Hörster 44asw Riveted Grip Bayonet

I think I posted this one a while ago, but thought you might like to compare to the other two Hörsters I just posted. This one is #2532dd, being manufactured not long before the switch over to the "sgx" code. Notice the flat dark finish. I'm calling it a phosphate finish because I'm not sure exactly what to call it. Anyone got a better idea?

While on the subject of 1944 Hörster finishes; they also made a very few "asw" riveted grip bayonets with the grey phosphate finish normally attributed to the "sgx" pieces. These are extremely scarce and were evidently manufactured shortly before the change-over to the "sgx" code. Although many collectors mistakenly call the "sgx" bayonets the "Grey Ghost". this term was really coined to designate the "asw" grey phosphate pieces. The term was appropriate because finding one is like looking for a ghost!

Default Blued asw Rivet for comparison

Here is a riveted grip 44asw manufactured a bit earlier than the one above - this one being #2702bb. Notice the blued, albeit poorly done finish...

Beautiful pieces, Denny, thanks for sharing! If you ever get tired of one of them...

Wayne, looking forward to seeing your 44asw in the "dd" block. Please post it here so we can compare yours and mine.

And a "ee" that could have been stored a little bit better.

    Peter,
Thank you for posting your alphabet of 44asw's; especially the "ff" block "Grey Ghost"! It is, far and away the rarest 44asw of any shown in this thread. If anyone had one, I should have known it would be you.
Now...... Dig deep into your stash and show us a 45sgx!

I wish I could say this one below is mine, but I can't! I have forgotten who sent me these pictures several years ago. This is the holy grail for SG84/98 III collectors.

Certainly not the least! Again, thank you for showing it...

Now I would like to see either a "ff" block 44sgx or a "gg" block 44asw to further pin down when the code change took place.

p.s. I can't decide if I like the "grey ghost" name or not. Kinda leaning toward not... It makes me think of Shattuck's "Black Widow" Luger. Sort of cheesy when you think about it!
