This is one of my favorites. 147, 1938 in the “t” block. From what I can tell this is the highest observed 38 S&S until a later one shows up. Mostly 37 accepted but a few 214 parts including the upper band.

Nice rifle John!

It is the highest I know of, and KCN high is in the "s" block so beats that too!

Pretty low reporting on 147/1938, only have "4" BC for the entire year (including this one) and even 1937 has more documented!

Really odd with a "t" block range and such lame reporting on this maker/date.

Agree. Nice rifle John. Thanks for posting the additional pics of the bayolug, butt plate and channel numbers.

that's a great example! Pic stickied and thanks for posting it! John, could you upload them to the space here so if you switch servers they are saved? Tks.

Sure, do you want me to kill the links to photobucket and replace here?

Paul:

Thanks. That's a great point. If anyone has a 38 JPS, please post the barrel code here or even in a separate thread with pics.

Great looking rifle 3371940. Thanks for sharing! I have a M block and I took pics of it last week. Ill post it sometime in a few days. Here is it's barrel code:

Can you, please, describe the markings on this picture?
Thanks in advance.

The serial number is just to the right of the paint splatter with the alpha below it. Bleow that are the e37 acceptance marks. The underside of the butt is pretty well used so these marks are tough to see.

OK, thank you.

Is there the 147 of the factory between the serial number and the biggest eagle, and/or a P above it?
I try to compare this to the markings of another gun.

Oh no, you can load them all up as thumbs in your first post and have the links as well. No big deal, but it's a nice rifle and good pics and you'd have them saved on the server here too, which backs up daily. If your photobucket account went down or you cleared the pics they'd disappear here too, unless uploaded here.

Serial followed by alpha suffix followed by 2 E37's.

TA,

No I do not, but sure would like to increase my BC in 1938 by another 20%!

Actually John's two 147/38 represent half of the four known! Hard to believe I have only 4 from 147/38, as it isn't that scarce a maker/date and 1937 has several times as many reported.

Paul,

Do you have SN 2992 BC?

THunter:

Thanks! We appreciate the barrel code as well. Can you give us the serial for Simson's study? If you don't want to post it here you can send via pm.
