PwB = Polizeiwehr Bayern = Bavarian Protection Police

Hello

My Erfurt 1917 Kar A, for what it may help.

Recently sold on Ebay: Soemmerda S84mS, 1891, notched pommel, deactivated latch, 1920 and PwB, with unmarked scabbard. In rough shape but an extraordinary combination.

I assume you are talking about this one.
Well, somebody murdered the blade.
Would love to find something like that!

PS: somewhere I have a photo showing a Bavarian Police officer with SG 84/98 with V-notched pommel. Need to dig it out.

I wasn't able to save pics (I was using the GB app), but there was a PWB G98 on GunBroker back in August. It was a 1918 Amberg with a blued receiver. Bolt mismatched with a horrifically pitted 98K bolt in it. Stock was marked PWB with a brand (I actually mistook for EWB at first glance.)

I bid the rifle up to $900, but backed off when outbid, as I was chasing a 98b and a few other things at the time. Hope a member here got it and posts.

I have not seen a G98 with a PwB marking, I suspect it is possible but it would be unusual. I went through my Amberg files looking for this rifle but no luck. It's too late to run down the auction, but it would make a good discussion if we could see pictures of the rifle.

I also looked up CB remarks on the subject, he stated only Kar.98a are known so far as rifles go, but left the possibility that G98 could exist. If so an Amberg sure seems the most probable. Too bad you couldn't score it, but the fact remains that anything police marked carries a premium, there are several specialists running that angle and they aren't scared to pay a premium.
