Out the woodwork. Had the orginal front half of the sling hanging from the lower band when I got it. Left the dried grease and grime you see on it. Bore is mirror new. Exterior is, well, used ;)

Tks guys. Blade, AG, I've gotten the same way in my age. Way back when I shuffled my collection around to have "mint" examples, and would have worked to "upgrade" this one. Then I looked at my collection and realized how boring it looked....none of the rifles "talked". This one fought, was carried, it's German owner's method of carrying and using it worn onto it. A "stone mint" rifle like this tells the story of being in a crate or rack. Now, don't get me wrong, I still like condition, but appreciate honest wear too, particularly as I get wear on me. :biggrin1:

Virgins are boring - no character, shy, and inexperienced.

Now, give me a girl who knows what she's done... and how to do it with style.

ALL my rifles look similar, and that is how I will always collect them. ONE or two mint rifles is fine in a collection, but I need something with tangible history.

Nice photos of a nice rifle! Is that Dr. Frankenstiens lab you got there?

You've seen my lab Farb; that is the lab of the fellow whom I got it from. Nice guy, wanted a mint Garand for it and he ended up with my new in wrap one per lifetime DCM (not CMP) rifle I shot for in 1989.

byf..

yes, its nice to find a rifle like that..It's funny how orig. slings that are un-oiled tend
to dry and break.. I find either broken or near crumbling slings on orig. rifles. Thats also why I never store slings on rifles.. Looks like you have a great little work area H.B. I also see another paitient on the table in the rear! What are you holding out on.:moon:

Tks Mauser, not by workshop though, that was a pic from the guy that traded it to me. Looks like he has a young daughter like I do though, with that girly grafitti ;)

Ham,
Nice honest looking rifle. The ones with cary and use wear do speak to you, I cant help but wonder what battles it has been through, what fronts it's seen and what fate fell the man who carried it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the pics.... more wear patterns to study...

WoW that new in the wrapper Garand... had to be a hard trade for you.... Hope regret does not creep in later..... but you got a real nice piece to fill the slot...

It was my DCM rifle, bought for $79 + 70 in handling and such back when you had to shoot in a HP match, qualify, and would only get one per lifetime. Unfired rifle built in the 60s on a 50s unused receiver. Honestly though, I wanted the byf 42 more, and the fellow I got it from really wanted a Garand and this one exceeded his expectations, so everyone wins
