Welcome

Nice rifle, VCS is a tough maker to find; though lacking a stock hurts the value considerably. The bolt is a period re-number most probably, that is a typical re-number pattern. Prior to the nazi regimes re-armament program the German military was very frugal and re-used components relentlessly. Socialist never worry about other peoples money so the WWII period reworks are often sporting new ordnance spare replacement parts.

Your barrel is the original factory barrel, actually a JPS (Sauer) made barrel, but that is typical of the consortium production. Very often JPS made the barrels on VCS & CGH production. You have a nice foundation for a restoration project, largely original parts, or at least period parts, and a rather scarcer maker-date; I wish you luck on the project, when you get it together post up some pictures!

ok well. i was given a free stock that matches it self. but unfortunately some one went to town and sanded it and refinished it. but at least it matches. so i can consider it a 50/50 match haha. I also picked up a 1916 Simson Suhl bayonet that i think some one chromed. but its still good enough for me.

The pictures are from my phone and not the best.

Welcome back, almost a year & half!

Maybe you can do a picture of the right side of the receiver?

The stock looks good on the rifle, though this rifle originally would not have had the grips or takedown, too early for either probably, and it probably was in a walnut stock too originally. A good stock for the purpose though, you can shoot it and it is the right type, and these are harder to find loose these days.

The bayonet is probably original, they are often very shiny and although the pictures are great they do look typical of Simson. A nice bayonet, wartime Simson's made are not scarce, but they are more interesting than many of the other makers. Fits perfectly with a Suhl rifle, though VCS and CGH also made this type of bayonet, but they are more difficult to find. With some diligence you could find a VCS/16 bayonet!

I actually remember when this was for sale on gunbroker over a year ago. I had it on my watch list. Nice rifle!

haha yeah. i saw it on there and "had to have it" moment kicked in.

i will take some picutres of the right side tonight.

Cool rifle and a scarce code. I have an old VCS wartime rework. Definitely one of my favorite imperial rifles.

Here are some more pictures. i Forgot to post them awhile ago.
