A nice S/147/G in mostly matching condition. The rear trigger guard screw, trigger, extractor, and floorplate release button are non-matching.

Kind of running out of things to say. Another great rifle! Love the lumber and overall 'look' in pic #3. Outstanding rifles you've posted.

How do you people find these early works of art? Sheesh.

My guess is these rifles have been in a collection for many years. That's where the really primo stuff resides. This doesn't just bubble to the surface w/o a back story. There's a chance this has been tucked away for years by the OP, or it was in Brock's (or other collectors) possession.

I like it, it's a really nice Sauer & Sohn and you can be glad to have it in your collection!

Looks like the only mismatching part is the rear triggerguard screw, it could be MO.

Well that makes sense. I do hope someday soon I'll be in a position to purchase one. OP got a good one

I picked this up earlier in the year, and yes, it was in a long time collection.

That seems to be the case. No hating as they're all amazing pieces. I'm actually glad he decided to post them here.

What a great rifle love that Sauer bluing and quality. Looking at rifles like this you ask yourself this was a military rifle? Looks like something made by a high end gunsmith company for commercial use only, and spends alot of time behind a display case! There is just something about the early made rifles they really are a wow factor.

And BSchiebs don't give up hope on finding a nice early rifle buddy. The rifle your looking for pops up when you least expect it! Trust me or a good friend finds one for you. Thank you Dave for finding my Kornbusch last year! :biggrin1:

Hell it still shocks me I found that all matching 1939 337 back in January of this year. That was just plain luck pure in simple.

So, a question about bluing.

The bayonet lug on this rifle is blued. The interior of the action, the action rails, the feed ramp and the tang are blued.

Was there variability in early manufacture at Sauer on finishing?

Reason for asking, I have a 1936 which has no bluing in these areas, but reasonably good finish remaining elsewhere.

From what I understand there were indeed three or so variations from Sauer that year. So its possible changes in bluing was part of that. I don't know the specifics between variations however.

BSchiebs, rifles of this quality usually move around privately and quietly among collectors and collector groups. Most all of my nicer pieces have been from friends. Being part of a community as we have here, participating, and making friends is beneficial not only from a social and learning perspective, but it also puts one in a network where pieces like this are traded, bought, and sold among friends. Most here would rather trade among friends and members than deal with Gunbonker and randoms.
