Cleaning rod (shorted to 12") with longer head. Obviously adapted for Kar 98k, what was it originally made for?

I found this cleaning rod, shorted to 12 inch Kar 98k. As I recall the longer Gew 98 cleaning rods had similar heads as the Kar 98k cleaning rods.

I wonder if this was made for a different rifle from the pre war period? I can't find a mark or serial number that gives a clue. I might found one similar with e/6 mark, can't compare because I sold it a while ago.
