German Modified Dutch Infantry M95 (Type III)

I have been of the opinion that this type of modified Dutch M95 was post-war Indonesian, but this box cut, bolt mismatch rifle has changed my mind. Rifle is apparently an early Dutch rework, with a 1901 Steyr receiver from the N block reaccepted into service after rework in 1907. I'm not 100% sure about that, but it would explain the added serial number '2912' on the receiver and buttplate. I'm also not sure if the Germans refinished the rifle or not.

Bolt is unfortunately a mismatch, but the plum blue is almost certainly German done. Bayo lug has not been modified for use with the carbine bayonet. Rear sling swivel removed and plugged with a beech insert. Rear band is reshaped and very crudely done, as is the stock cutout. A K98k frosch will not fit, so I have no idea what sling would have been used with this. Screw hole is about 1/2" deep. If anybody has any clue how this might have been used, let me know. Perhaps a DSM34 setup?

Sorry the pics are out of order. Forum is not cooperating this evening. I have another type I will post later this week.

Hmm, I'm still not sure myself. I see things that look German, but since that cutout will not fit a German sling, why do it? We need to see this cutout in use or in a period document to be sure. This one though does tilt the needle though.
