Interesting find cleaning a 1940 K98 bayonet

Took apart to clean up, a neglected vet bring back mis-matched K98 bayonet rig. What I found in the channel for the cleaning rod is pictured below.
Wife thinks it is bugs. I think they are the butts of two hand rolled cigarettes that were hidden in the cleaning rod channel during assembly.
I've heard of coke bottles in the old Chevy Vega's or other items hidden in the walls and under bathtubs in older homes but this took me by surprise.
Thought I would share. Opinions......

I agree that it is not bugs. Can`t say for sure what it is. Whatever it is, I highly doubt it was placed in the cleaning rod channel during assembly. Too much inspecting going on in 1940 for that to happen in my honest opinion. That channel is open and easily accessible through the mortise.
I am sure others will chime in as they see this.

I found similar on some bayonets, could be a remains of moth or chrysalis of a night butterfly or similar thing.
