Warrior1354
ax - hole
This special rifle came in this afternoon will do a full photo spread when my restoration is complete. But thought I post a few and show some before pictures.
These are neat, this is the third one known and the finest probably. All Spandau d-block assembly, which was the last block in 1912, and identical acceptance on Spandau/12 receivers (last two RR)
Erfurt stopped the G98 in 1908 very early on, only a couple known, under 500 rifles estimated, the rest were probably leftovers and diverted to Spandau in 1912 and seemingly grouped together, though two 5000-d block straight up Spandau/12's are between the group of Erfurt/08 receiver (by serial number):
2475/d
2878/d
7301/d
Of course these could range wider, possibly in the c-block of 1912 production, but so far these are pretty elusive! I think Erfurt's involvement with the MG08 and P08 probably played a large role in their limited numbers after 1908. They made or finished a lot of bayonets too! A book could be written on the subject of Erfurt alone, really an interesting subject...
