K98 sling with strange markings

Hello dear friend,
I've came across with this K98 sling. I have a couple of question about it.

Is that sling is fully original?

Is that german made?

What you can tell me about markings "RO" and "88 'two swords' 40" (if I see correctly)?

Thank you so much.

This is a postwar Czech sling I believe, the marking is Czech. Perhaps it's 46 and not 40.

One of my friend said:

"That belt can be a war. Weapons and components after the German army and army production on the territory of Czechoslovakia after the war, a huge amount remained. These swords mean that the army took over in 1948 as a bunch of other prey and used them until the mid-1950s and sometimes even longer. When I was in the army in the 1990s, a lot of German army equipment was in the army depots of the Czech Army."

What do you think about that this sling can be german made, but stamps are postwar (crossed sword marking was introduced in 1948)?

Also as far as I know Czechoslovakia produce K98 slings during the war: http://www.rollanet.org/~stacyw/czech_k98_sling.htm

My opinion is that markings doesn't make period sling a post war :)

Most real there is 98 swords and 50 which means a Czechoslovak sling for 98 design , communist period CS Army property stamp and 1950 date.b.r.Andy

Agree "98 swords 50", but this stamp can be on german made sling? Because other people from other forum said that this is pre war sling and post war stamp

Certainly not, the sling is probably postwar made as the acceptance of this form was added only on new equipment, and easy way there was many Sudetenland area leather fabrics that produced to 1945 for Wehrmacht and post may 1945 for CS Army in same condition.b.r.Andy

I agree with Andy. That being said, when the Czech slings began to turn up in the 1980s, I bagged a number of them because they were both nice and priced very reasonably. Now 30 years later, and considering what a original wartime German rifle sling would bring in the same condition as the Czech issue pictured, I would be more than happy to use it over a Israeli, Yugo, or repro any time. Another good one is the Austrian which was used for the StG57 and SSG. They are about 6 inches longer than the WW2 pattern and have only 2 button holes. A friend gave me a template which he used to cut them down and add three new button holes. In addition the Austrian slings have the deep checkering and border, which the majority of German period slings had.
