Iasc and Hambone got it.
This is a piece of the original barbed wire from Dachau.
The new stuff they put up since the camp became a museum and memorial site is much fiercer looking, with larger barbs on the wire.
After the war the camp barracks were used as a Displaced Persons "DP" camp. My family lived in one of these units, and my grandfather, who had deserted the Red Army and escaped to the west when the war ended (he served in the Czech cavalry, the German cavalry and Gebirgsjaeger, and Russian "Czech Red Army" cavalry during the WW2 period), was in charge of a "transit camp" there for people from occupied parts of Europe who could not or did not want to go back to their native lands, and were waiting to emigrate to America, Canada, South America, Israel, Australia, and places like that.
