Hi folks, I just acquired a Mauser the has 1917 on the receiver and gew mod 98, along with a serial number of 970 on everything except the mag bottom plate which is mismatched. It has a 24 inch barrel. Confused as to what I have it also has eagle markings on the receiver and barrel. Any help appreciated. The marking on the left side of the receiver appear to me as fnx 98, I suppose its really gew 98 but it don't look that way to me. Also a crown and erfurt on the receiver. The barrel is approx 24 " is this a 98a. Its in very good condition, but is drilled and tapped for a scope. Any info on this gun appreciated.
