Karl Dehler was born October 30th 1920 in Frankfurt/Main.
Drafted to the 3. company Pionier Ersatz Bataillon 29 on October 4th 1940.

On June 6th his unit was sent to the Russian border. June 22nd they broke through the Russian border.

On August 26th 1942 Karl Dehler was wounded by a shrapnel on his right hand. That wound saved him to suffer the same fate like the rest of his unit, that was destroyed in the Stalingrad pocket. Looks like he was sent home for recovery.

On January 1st 1943 he was promoted to Corporal, serving with the Wehrkreis-Unterführerlehrgang VI, engineer company at Wahn (near Cologne)
August 6th 1943 - November 10th 1943 he was transfered to the 2. company Army NCO school for engineers at Neubreisach. During that NCO training he was sent the the sniper training at Dueren, from August 18th to September 14th 1943.
Then back to the front.
KIA June 10th 1944 in Italy (probably on Sicily)

Awards:
assault badge, December 18th 1941
iron cross II.class, February 3rd 1942
wound badge, September 7th 1942
eastern front medal, June 7th 1944

"KIA June 10th 1944 in Italy (probably on Sicily)"

just finished reading this book - oddly enough it discusses the fate of german snipers surrendered/captured by US army in Sicily among lots of other fascinating topics - mostly about things you won't see mentioned in mainstream (psuedo) history books for reasons that will become obvious - its basically a treatise concerning Brit special ops unit commanded by Ian Fleming - great read - and not sugar coated, so you've been warned
