How much does a sharpened bayonet, hurt the value? Not sure when tthe one I have, wa harpened. More than
likley, post war. 44 fnj #9304 m sccaberred is 9260 m

Probably 50 or more % down, the late war pieces are mashined heavily so the sharpening is good visible and hard to remove or hide.

Blade collectors are more finicky than we are and the K98k collectors I know won't touch a sharpened K98k bayonet for hardly any price. Too many nice I unmessed with bayonets available.

+1 on Ham's comment!
Then again, if you have a '45 dated bayonet, it's being sharpened wouldn't make much difference. I'll take it!!!

I add the early omc (39-40) bayonets to the list of exceptions to the "no sharpening" rule as well. Maybe early bym too.

So would you rather have an un-sharpened bayo loose or a sharpened matching one?

..

Neither. But then again I'm not a specialist blade collector. I like bayonets, but they are accessories for my K98ks. As set forth above, if I needed an OMC or a '45 date to round out my collection I'd take a sharpened one as a place holder until I could upgrade it.
