Hello Bill, nice bayonets, the 44sgx is normal phosphated, there is no other finish on them, the grey ghost were named the phosphated 44asw production.

Nice E. G. Waterman & Co., New York (EGW) fighter with a correct pattern sheath. These knives can be fun to collect as there is a lot of variation in patterns and style. Not the highest quality fighter by any means but tens of thousands were carried by our men during the Second World War.

Andy is correct about the asw/Gray Ghost terminology. I firmly believe the originators of terms like "Gray Ghost" & "Black Widow" should be publicly flogged with a wet noodle!
Any manufacturer and/or distributor mark on the Faschinenmesser?
