byf- in my experience, for the most part you are free to go walk around in the woods digging as long. there is a monument protection law, so famous battlefields or around monuments/ museums etc i would stay away from. Many times (and i think your safest bet) you can also ask property owners if you can dig on their property and they will give you permission.

Bigdibbs88,just wondering are people allowed to go into areas where battles were fought and look for/dig for war relics? just curious,thanks and hope your day goes well,Rob.
