Are missing band screws common?

Any thoughts about why the screws are not correct? Did someone pick up the gun with no screws and felt a need to add them perhaps? Do you th the original screws might have been lost and then replaced with whatever was at hand?

I saw your bnz45 pics of the band screws and they look like mine (above). Most folks say these screws are late additons but I am wondering if maybe the wood screws were in short supply in the late war and these panheads did the job. Any thoughts?

Could it not have left the factory with those screws? They have the same bluing as the bands.
