Bought a pile of bayonets…

I recently got a bunch of bayonets from a collection.

Random assortment of U.S., French, Austrian and German.

Too keep it on topic of German stuff, here are the German bayonets.

From right to left,

Deutsche Maschinenfabrik A.G Duisburg
S98/05 Sawback

Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen Foche
S98/05

Simson Suhl S98.
Appears to be unit marked to the I. See Batalion. Unfortunately the tip of the scabbard is pretty dented.

Last but not least is a bit of a weird one.

At first I thought it was an Imperial S84/98 made by Frister & Rossmann, but it looks like it’s some kind of modified S98/05 or something else. Blued finish, with imperial markings intact but no date on the back of the blade. Scabbard matches, and is also marked S/155k. Anyone have any ideas?

All of them are in pretty good shape and the blades aren’t bubba sharpened.

Let me know what you guys think!

The cut down S98/05 is like the one posted by Slash on 4-21-22. Your bayonet has an S84/98 III (S/155K - Horster 1934) instead of the heavy scabbard as seen on the one Slash presented. Very interesting bayonets. Thanks for sharing your find.

Thanks! I was thinking it was something similar to his. Would this be another Police issue bayonet or would it be an early Nazi era-military conversion?

I thought it was a little odd that the blood groove doesn’t come all the way to the end of the blade. I figured if it was a cut-down 98/05 it would. I guess they just re-profiled that part of the blade.

From only reading Slash`s post, I would say Police.
Being 1934, I would think Horster would be manufacturing S84/98 III bayonets for the military.

Certainly a nice bunch of bayonets, the S98nA with ReichsMarine unit and ersatz scabbard is good, the S98/05 are in correct condition. The shortened S98/05 in nice and looks like spare armorer scabbard was used, from this i would tend to a army piece not a police one. Should be looked at the ball finial for proof, the scabbard is matched to the bayonet. Even the serialing speaks for police inventory.

Thanks for the info guys. Anybody know of a way to get the dents of out the scabbard on the S98 bayonet? They’re closer to the tip. I can get the bayonet in and out of the scabbard, but you have to push it to get it all the way in.

I’d like to find a safe way to fix it.
