Third Party Press

byf 44 purchased at local gun shop today.

Stopped by my local shop today to pick up some AR parts for a build. While I was ther I asked about any new milsurp guns that had come in. The owner said he had two from an estate they are going through, a K98 Mauser and an Artillery Luger.

I asked to see the K98 and he brought it out. A, at first glance, nice byf 44 in a stock I can't quite decide if red or white laminate. A look0over showed external numbers matching. a psosphate bolt. Un numbered stamped bands, stamped byf marked triggerguard and floorplate, also un numbered.

Late war trigger plate/guard assmbly. without locking screws.

Chatter on stock at wrist, pistol grip and heel.

Going to take some pics, I already took the plung and bought it. (fingers crossed)

very very nice find.... The white/clear stripes running through the stock are indication of what collectors call a "white glue" stock. The other type would show orange to red in color..
Nice deep side proof and overall condition is very good +++ you did well

Another late gun with an FN bolt body...cool, and factory correction of receiver SN.
Yes, FN bolt like this earlier one :) :

It is also a "dual-tone" by your definition, isn't it ?
I note that the receiver is polished : maybe a rejected one, recycled for this late L block.

@Hal O'Peridol : very nice find, if you decide to remove the action, I would be interested in knowing the barrel code. Thanks.

I'm glad you picked this one up Hal because I believe you're experienced enough not to molest it in any way. This is exactly what a used but not abused "been there" k98 should look like ! :D (y) (y) (y)

Priced at 1600. A good price I thought.

The Luger was a gray finish, that color old warn bluing gets. The 'bolt' and extractor were mismatched and the mag was fxo marked but had a real bad repro wood bottom, looked like carved by the common angry beaver.
