Hi everyone. New here. I was wondering if you guys could give me some help on a mauser that I believe is a 98. It is sporterized which I know hurts its value but it is in beautiful shape. It has the 1936 and S147 stamped on it. I have included pics. Thanks in advance. View attachment 320101

Without seeing whats left, I would say its not worth much. Will you try to restore it to original configuration? If so, stock is non existent. Add in the receiver has been refinished. Please compare to a S147, 36 date I looked at for purchase, attached. See if anyone can pickup what is wrong with the photo I attached.

Depot jobber?

Yes I believe so. I need to get the rifle outside to determine and still has a great deal of cosmoline on it. Hard to decipher with one 75 watt light bulb. Here is another, same bringback source, that just had the cheese cloth removed... I think it will clean up well with lots of time and effort.
