Update on FG42 from SMG Guns

Someone should put together a list of when the deposit was mailed/ when the rifle was paid for and then received. I know rona played a good part in the wait times here recently, would still be cool to see the "average" time.

To be fair, Covid kinda screwed us. 9-12 months is probably more accurate assuming normal availability of materials and outsourced services.
Fair point, but many availability issues have been dealt with for quite some time now. It’s really been a question of cost rather than availability for the last 6-8+ months now. Ive heard (I have nothing to prove this) that one thing really hamstringing them is labor, and that problem isn’t going away any time soon

Good morning and happy Easter weekend all. I finally had nice weather and a chance to steal away to my family farm to try out the FG42. I only put 20 rounds through it, as I slowly getting familiar with the gun. It shoots like a dream. I have an M48 that shoots 8mm and an AK variant that shoots 7.62x39 and it feels just like the AK; obviously less kick seen on the M48. The trigger feels excellent, the peep sight design worked a lot better than I thought it would, and the charging handle pull was quick to get used to. Both magazines did not have any issues, and my other magazines I bought a few years ago also showed zero problems.

The gun worked great off the bat. It cycled perfectly with no failures to feed or eject. Watching the video and reading the manual before shooting helped to understand the function and process of the rifle. It is a true work of art. I only shot at targets up close, but I would like to start stretching its’ legs. I have an original L marked ZF4 scope, but I will probably get a repop to use on the rifle. Has anyone used original ZF4 scopes without issue or guilt?

One more thing to note, the rifle right out of the case had a damaged bipod (they are prone to be damaged). I contacted Rick, and he said he will put me on a list to get another bipod leg. While discussing this, he did mention that there is only so many bipods left available. Makes me wonder how many more orders he can fill.

People waiting for rifles, keep holding out. For me, this was a big undertaking to get this rifle, and my collection is very small, but this one called to me. I think anyone who can afford the rifle will have no remorse from ordering it.

To the comment above it being ridiculous for having to wait for two years: I manage a line in a manufacturing setting. We deal with part shortages daily, and it changes by the hour. In the current environment, its unfortunately expected that orders are at risk to get delayed and I am not surprised on the timeline for Rick to deliver guns. I agree it’s frustrating, but it is out of Ricks control. Despite that, it’s well worth the wait.

I hope he gets to the Type 1s soon. Any one receive a Type 1 lately?
He told me that he should start delivering the Type 1’s at the end of the year, or the start of next year. Funny thing is that I ordered my type 2 a month after I ordered my type 1’s (one in 8mm and one in .308), and my type 2 arrived on February 20th.

No Type 1’s until the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024? The last email I got said a small batch of Type 2’s in early 2023 followed by a small batch of Type 1’s. Has this changed?
