I saw this post, looked into it a bit and didn't bother responding. What are we trying to 'validate'?? I have an idea where this might go but who knows. Also, what's with the NEED to see a j block? Dude says he "found every other block to reference". Thinking maybe Steyr slipped something...

43 Sauer stock, what to use to clean up /oil, or leave it alone?

I saw your other post too. This turned out fantastic IMHO. Congrats on saving this one.

    1940 code 42 navy?

The stock stumps me a bit regarding what they did to it. It's doesn't look too bad IMHO and the bolt cutout is still very sharp, but the stamps are almost completely wiped out.

UPDATE- she’s back - Matching but refinished sporter JPS, 375, would you ?

That turned out fantastic for both what you started with and what you spent. Nice job!

New here, looking for some info on my new K98k!

I thought it might be one of them. Their deal is they take 'Pappy's old bringback and make it purdy and safe'. I hate it, but they've made a business out of 'ruining' historically correct rifles. "Hand Restored to Original-Issue Condition" which is not true either. https://www.miltecharms.com/

    BNZ 43 SSZZA4 7038 Depot Build

Congrats on another stellar rifle. That wood condition is fantastic. Thanks for the great photo spread! I also saw depot build S/N 6380 sold, but didn't see a price on that one. Care to share what it sold for? If not, I understand.

New here, looking for some info on my new K98k!

I also thought Mitchell's. The jet black butt plate and recoil lug had me going there. 2 other possibilities are Miltech and James River, who've both been 'refurbishing' these.

I hear you completely, but I also understand the 'why' he wants one. Same reason all the other guys who flock to them. Regarding those 'challenges' you mention, I haven't tracked scientifically, but I'd bet we see 6,7 or 8 fake rune/TK rifles for each legit one. My ratio may be off, but the...

It's eerie how similar those stocks are. Almost looks like they came out of the same tree.

    Byf42 - x block

Well that makes more sense. I thought you meant for the rig.

Yes, it's pretty wild if you don't track this stuff. I also had/have one that didn't fit the traditional and accepted format and I couldn't figure it out at first.

    Byf42 - x block

200 Euros? And you're still asking?? :ROFLMAO: I also think it would clean up nicely with some Kroil and a soft cotton cloth. I've seen what guys on here have done with much worse.

    Byf42 - x block

It's salty, but it looks honest. Edit. Mostly just the front metal and part of the butt plate. Other metal looks pretty good. Stock stamp still looks execellent.

@Stephan98k that's why you're awesome. It's not like you've been trending stocks or anything like that. This is the best part IMHO... "the worker who stamped them had problems with the correct date format"

    ? K98 bnz/byf

This isn't a knock on you and I think it's good that you ask FIRST rather than making a mistake, however I think what you're searching for is actually pushing you right into these guys. The fakers love them SS, TK, runes and 'camp rifles' and use all the usual buzzwords in the title for that...

Circled crown/KM mark on stock meaning?

From @Amberg back in 2015 "That tag shows the silhouette of a Mod. 88 cartridge and says: "Nur für Patrone 88" Only for Mod.88 rounds." No photo was shared. From the same thread... "Only rifles on Mauser M98 actions were to be accepted and issued. Those suitable for the then standard .323"...

    S/237 137

To me it looks like the original action is ground dug, cleaned and placed in a Yugo capture stock and metal.

    1936 S/42 Kar98K

It certainly appears now that the only possible non-matching part is the handguard. Given it's literally 'matching to the screws' I think the chances of that are nearly zero. I think the values given are pretty fair and at $3k it would be a nice get IMO.

    Gew88 Sporter at the Front

Great work tying all this information together and a pretty cool backstory. Thanks for an interesting read!
