    Identifying a WWII(?) era bolt.

The only stamps are on the root of the bolt handle and all are shown. The eagle does not appear to be a commercial proof, but I cannot make out anything near its feet, no matter how many times I look at the bolt or pic. Bolt handle has the Oberndorf style handle, but the s/n on the bottom of...

BNZ Rifles first marked "Mod. 98" -- When?

Recently acquired BNZ 41 rifle s/n 4973b. It IS marked "Mod. 98" on the side rail. In digging around for information I saw a comment that earlier BNZ rifles were first marked "Mod. 98" in early 1941, but I couldn't find any details as to the approx. s/n when this happened. 4973b has Radom...

DOT 1945 - Assembled post war?

No Waffenamts, no Yugo firing proof that I can see and s/n (101) would appear to be incorrect, It is also a CAI import. I bought it as a representative example, or for parts. Stock in un-numbered and bolt is late war FN production and matching.

CE44 Numbers matching BARRELED ACTION - What to do with it?

I was in Texas buying a truck from a friend for my daughter Stopped by a local gunshop to pick up a pistol for the drive home with my daughter. (I am an FFL, so could purchase.) At the register I see a Bubba sporterized Mauser in an old Bishop stock on the wall. Agreed on a price and I bought...

    1941 Dated Portuguese 98k -- Correct Buttplate?

Recently purchased a Portuguese 98k and the entire rifle is matching by s/n and Waffenamts, except the bupped buttplate. Buttplate is marked brg & WaA497 Based on: "Das Heereswaffenamt" (Detailed Listing of German WaA Markings and Codes) This would be manufactured by H.W. Schmitt in the...

    Standard Modell w/ Incorrect - Re-numbered bolt

As I recall, a Standard Modell would have a straight bolt handle. As this rifle does appear to be otherwise matching would a GEW bolt be a better choice? I have several GEW bolts, including one that has been blued.

bcd 41 - Salvageable? And another question.

The pics tell the big story. Other details. No bolt. (Did install another bolt to check if action was tweeked. Operated properly.) Serial number matching on all parts present (Haven't pulled metal from stock yet.) Screws, cleaning rod, buttplate, follower, bands, bolt stop, etc. All...

How to determine if mounts are original or reproduction.

Picked up an auction lot that included this pair. Rear has been filed on a bit, but otherwise in good condition. Every Google search I tried was filled with links for reproductions. Almost forgot. What dimension do I need to measure to determine if these are high or low mounts?

byf 44 with no makers code or date on front ring??

Posted this on Gunboard and following a suggestion to post it here also. Maybe this is common, but the first I have seen. (Pictures as soon as possible!) Just forward of the front ring on the barrel is a small mark of 'byf' in a shield. To the right of the shield on the barrel is the date(?)...

VZ24 dated 1938 on the front ring.

Would a VZ-24 with the date of 1938 on the front ring have been made post occupation by the Germans? It seems too early to me, but cannot find a good source to the actual date of the takeover. The side rail has the "ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ ZBROJOVKA, A.S., BRNO" over "VZ.24" nomenclature. Otherwise...

    Identify from the following: 1943, WaA214 & WaA135

I have been curious of the origins of a rifle I own. Long ago sporterized and the front ring ground down Only remaining marks are the date "1943" on the front ring and two Waffenampts on the trigger guard. A Google search does not turn up any maker I can match to a 1943 date with these...

svw MB - Originality and value?

Similar to my other post, can you tell me what is incorrect on this rifle. The clearest example is the sling swivels. Why someone would add those with the other options already present...... Once removed, should I plug the holes, or just leave them? While not a collector, the history of...

Standard Modell -- Please point out the warts.

I have identified some of the non-original issues with this rifle, but I suspect there are more. If you could comment about what you see, I would appreciate it. Also, what, if anything can be done to correct any of the issues? Will disassemble the rifle later to determine any markings in...

dot 1944 - Pencil marks under buttplate

Picked up this dot 1944 a couple of days ago. Like usual, I went looking for Bubba'd and sporter Mausers and end up with a military rifle. Barreled action, stock and magazine are numbers matching. Bolt(matches itself) and bands do not match. Repaired duffle cut, it looks like the bands...

BCD 45 -- Interesting and sad story.

A friend is going to attempt to purchase this rifle for me today. Interesting story is that it is owned by an ex-Wehrmacht soldier who somehow brought it to the USA with him when he immigrated to the USA many years after the war. The sad part is that he moved to a deer hunting area and had...

Is this a GEW to K98 Conversion? If so, is it genuine?

Stock has been cut back to "sporterize" so it is not a good clue to origins of this rifle. Apologies for the picture quality, had to take them with my cell phone. Serial number on barrel and action match. Bolt s/n does not match.

"bcd 4" Numbers Matching K98 Questions Pic HEAVY! dial up not recommended!

"bcd 4" Numbers Matching K98 Questions Pic HEAVY! dial up not recommended! Hello, Went to an auction today to bid on a couple of sporterized Mauser rifles. They turned out to be in pretty rough condition so I didn't bid much on them. Just before the auction started, I spotted a couple of...

Late war stamped/welded bottom metal question.

I searched, but apparently am not using the correct terminology. Late war stamped bottom metal. With a serial number but no other marks. Post war use? Common? Thanks!

Question on stock bands and bayonet mounts.

I picked up a box at an auction a couple of days ago. Not being a collector (yet.... ) I typically buy rifles already mucked with so I can feel no guilt in taking them apart. Almost always, they have been "Bubba'd" and these items are missing. Are these parts usually numbered to...
