    PTR 44 purchase opportunity

I’m not actually in the market for a PSA clone of any sort. As I have a reweld to semi only MP44 original. It can be done. I saw and took a screenshot of an ATF letter of one that was rewelded into semi only. Everything that was done to that gun, I had the same mods already in mine. The only...

    PTR 44 purchase opportunity

Justinian, do share your thoughts on the PSA rifle. I have argued for years against guys who wanted one in some other caliber than 7.92x33 till I’m blue in the face but it just doesn’t die. Then when HMC announced they were going to build it in 4 calibers I knew it was destined to fail...

My first German surplus rifle; a Walther AC44. Opinions welcome.

That is out of print. Copies you can find are very expensive. But the author has announced he will be releasing a revised book(s) with much more information than the first book has.

My first German surplus rifle; a Walther AC44. Opinions welcome.

I looked it up in Weaver’s Hitler’s Garand book. In the “p” block they began omitting the bolt carrier hold open. So you should be good.

My first German surplus rifle; a Walther AC44. Opinions welcome.

When you say it should not have the bolt hold open are you referring to the hold open latch on the bolt carrier? or the last round bolt hold open in the receiver?

How to open WW2 300 rd box?

there's usually a diamond shaped paper seal on the end. You break that then carefully pry open the card board flap to access the buckle on the cloth carry strap. Undo that and you can slide the 15 round boxes out the end.

    Ammo Alert

I got at least 5000 rounds of this from J&G sales. They were $23.50 for a 300 round pack. I was getting 900 rounds shipped for around 100 bucks. The ammo I got was dated from 1934 to 1939, all brass cased. I fired some of this through my TNW MG34. But didnt trash the boxes. I collected the spent...

    Found a decent S/42 recently

I found this link. At the bottom is the data this author says is good for this cartridge. the data table is at the bottom. I’m going to try some of these since I have tried to get the 198 grain load right for a long time now. https://www.handloadermagazine.com/8x57mm-mauser

    Found a decent S/42 recently

I think you mean data to reload the sS round to WW2 specification? I could use that information too if anyone has it.

    MP44 Trigger parts

Here’s what originals should look like. They have three-letter codes stamped on the left side. I got these from an original trigger grip. The owner wanted me to put 922r compliant parts in. He got the 922r parts from recon ord. The repro parts worked.

    BNZ43 help!

It obviously doesn't mean much to him or he would have taken care of it. I would do what one poster already suggested, offer to take them home for a good cleaning and never give them back.

Be careful. Fakers in our midst. gill120 Dave Gill please respond

Now that you mention this, I have a bnz45 that I bought as a barreled receiver with everything but a stock, hand guard and barrel bands. I’m slowly finding original Kriegsmodel parts to return it to as close as I can to its original configuration. I’ll post pictures of it when I’m done one...

    AC45 p38

I’m considering selling this to a friend. I’m looking to see what your opinion is of its value as a “friend” price. It’s a mismatched AC45 that the guys over on the P38 forum say was one assembled for the GI’s that captured the Walther plant in 1945. It made on a C block frame...

    Zinc Phosphate MP44 mag

So I bought a zinc phosphate kit from Allegheny Arsenal and decided to try it out on some of my repro MP44 mags. Here is the result. I was trying to get close to the late war phosphate look on some of the magazines. They came out good I think. Here are two of them next to a repro blued mag.

    Steyr Purchase questions

If they are Russian Captures the stocks would be mismatched and you may find one uses the shorter cleaning rod. Take the action out of the stock and measure where the cleaning rod nut is

    Front sight blade sizes

I prefer to first break them loose with my front sight adjuster before I get out the punch so I dont bugger the end of the blade.

Rarest of the rare MP40 variation the STG40 as seen in "The Bridge" 1959

This. The old Henry Fonda BOTB film was garbage, filmed in Spain on terrain that was nothing like the Ardennes seen in original period photos. There have been a few films where the action took place during BOTB, like A Midnight Clear (not worth watching more than once) Saints and Soldiers...

    Front sight blade sizes

Original rifles. I have several russian captures and several Romanian captures, plus a few sporter rescues. I doubt swapping front sight blades will impact value on most of these. Does anybody know if the Russians removed the front sight blades when they "refubished" these K98's? If so, I'm...

    Front sight blade sizes

That would be ideal. Last time I took 98k's to the range I went with 4. A byf 43, dot43, 42 1940 and a 42 1939. All using the same ammo, only the dot43 hit the target I was aiming at. Elevation wise it was an inch or two high at 100 but hit to the left. The 42 1940 actually hit the target below...
