Here is my BYM matching late 44 bayonet. 44 on the back of blade and 4 on the scabbard this must have been some sort on transition in 44. since the serial number is early in 44 2215 B. Blade is plum, pictures don't really show the plum color in the photos. Never been sharpen. No dents. Any one can shed some light on why 44 on the blade and 4 on the scabbard. Why they did this. I do think it was a transition in 44.

I have your bayonet as being sold on ebay during March of 2007. The first bym44 are in the two line serial numbering format (sequential over lot number) as typically used in Ferlac production. These scabbards are marked bym over 44. Serial numbering then switched to the more conventional sequential digits over letter block. The letter block in upper case. They did not have a no letter block between the two numbering styles. The conventional style was utilized from the A to F blocks. These scabbards are marked bym over 4. Unknown as to why. Die stamp wear or breakage is a possibility. Ferlac also made use of old stock 43 dated bayonets in early production. Matching numbered 43 dated bayonets with 44 dated scabbards. The bym43/44 can be found in both the early two line and conventional numbering runs. Other variations to look for ....

Its already a 44 production which is clear on bayonet, is possible scabbard was produced earlier when not got the proper stamp so the 3 could be removed from die of 43, or bym 44 the die was damaged and not replaced. anyway here is not mixed year on blade so not switch period, plum blue is typical.

Kool. Another nice one. I'm sure by listing all the serial's in 44 we could figure out when this was started in early A block to when ever . I'm sure Slash can shed some light on this. Since he has been calculating the serial ranges.
