duv 42 #3196k

Gunrunner

Senior Member
As I'm going through my 98ks I notice that my duv 42 #3196k which was made right at the end of BLM K98K production that it had two Astrawerke supplied parts that were not numbered, the follower and the bayonet lug which would have been numbered on earlier rifles, it also has a Staatliche Waffenfabrik jwh floorplate, thought it was interesting.

Very niece looking rifle! That presents really well.

..it also has a Staatliche Waffenfabrik jwh floorplate, thought it was interesting.

It's funny after having not seen one in quite a while 3 have been show here very recently. It's fairly obscure in that if you search 'Staatliche Waffenfabrik' you get nothing but page after page of bayonets.

MAC - Manufacture d'armes Chatellerault (jwh) is best known for German bayonets (from our perspective as 98k collectors) but made a fairly diverse number of components: floorplates being the most common, almost all on BLM 1941-1942 production. They also made rear bands, followers, rear sight bases, MG34 bolt bodies, cross bolts for the G43

According to Honor Bound, MAC initially worked on commercial vehicles immediately after the armistice. Then in 1942 MAC was given contracts to make MAC 31 MG's and to provide small components for small arms. Bayonets being the most numerous. I have recorded at least one floorplate in 1941 (BLM n-block) and jwh bayonets are well known for 1941, so this contract/order must have occurred earlier than the book or author states.

*** I should also state that this is the highest duv/42 I have confirmed, one reported in the 4700/k block but no pictures for a confirmation. The "book" might have higher end of production rifle, or confirmation of the 4700/k block but just from my trends this is the highest, and consequently, the last rifle made or near it. Of course duv/42 receivers are known in p-s blocks but these are Gustloff assembles. Pretty nice rifle too!
