Looks very nice indeed svw. Yes the bluing is great. Whenever a Type 99 is brought up it makes me recall the time back in 1972 walking into a favorite LGS with my buddy and seeing a pile of milsurp rifles in an old box. My friend spotted a Type 99 and bought it for $25. Hard to believe now!! A box of 7.7 Norma rounds and off we went to shoot it. Quite a difference from the 10/22s us kids were shooting at the time. Thanks for sharing yours.

I like stories like this. The good old days!

Yeah thanks sombra. Hope that old box didn't contain any SS contract 98ks. LOL Guess we could all use a Time Machine.

I remember when no one wanted Japanese rifles, I to remember buying them in the 80's for $ 25,00 each. They were hard to sell back than ,especially if they had ground mums. even matching ones. Everyone always wanted a Springfield or K98 Rifle. Now they have went up in price, Not as much as other rifles. But they are not cheap no more. And harder to fine now.
I still have a few in my collection that I bought in the 80's.

Yeah how times have changed. Don't know how many times I walked passed that "junk pile" of milsurps with no interest. Just there to pick up .22 rounds or stare at those Remington 1100s I always wanted for bird hunting. When I got older and inherited dad's 98k I could appreciate the build quality of these guns.

the covers almost never match and are usually post war replacements, you used to be able to buy the covers cheap at fun shows, nice to see it has the cleaning rod, and marked leather sling.

nice rifle

look around I frequently see original cartridge pouches for sale get a few, in the 70's we used to buy the cartridge pouches for the ammo ( original ammo)

Nice T99. I've collected Japanese weapons since I was a kid. I liked the history and the Arisakas were available at a price point that teenagers could afford.
(conversely, the price of Norma ammo was NOT cheap.....)
The rifles are finally getting the collector attention they deserve. The Nambu prices started their climb a few years ago and the rifles are now catching up.
Thanks for sharing.

A few pics of my T38 CC. This one's also completely matching, except for the dust cover I added. Nice carbine-length sling and mirror bright bore, and the struck mum doesn't bother me because the piece was a gift.

I too remember the days of the $20 Jap rifle -- my first ever centerfire (also a T38 CC, but sporterized) was purchased at Navy Arms for that price when I was about 14. Harry's Army & Navy used to have a pickle barrel of them by the door, your choice $25. I used to reload my twenty Norma cases with a Lee Loader, it was a lot of fun.

It was a LONG time before Jap rifle values finally moved...

That is a nice one. Thanks for showing it. Tough to fine them in that condition. I only have had one type 99 with a matching dust cover, And it was a later one. They are usually mismatched. I remember I had a Type 99 rifle that was all shot up ,From battle in the original shipping wood case I had brought it to the SOS, And 2 guys where fighting over it. I was shocked how bad they each wanted it. I never thought anything of it ,because it was all shot up. At least it had 4 bullet holes in it. I probably had sold it to cheap back then. Maybe I should have kept it.

Nice 99. I regret selling mine.

That isn't a name on the sling it's a number: 66/52.

At shows, you never know what'll blow someone's skirt up.

I remember a rifle my father-in-law had (God rest his soul), I'm pretty sure it was a T99. The thing had been run over with a tracked vehicle, and the barrel was bent. For some reason he held onto that piece. This was a guy who, when we loaded the van for a show, packed everything. I mean it, right down to the light fixtures. There was nothing he wouldn't sell, but for some reason he refused to part with that mangled Jap rifle!
