The Koblenz Tiger

Repo Field Gear Collector
That’s what we’re calling it haha. This Erfurt went through Koblenz at some point, but I’m not precisely sure of the work they accomplished. The bands and stacking rod are all from a different serial rifle, not sure if these were replaced at the depot or later. The stock appears to have had the keel numbering refreshed as it is the same number, but a different font die was subsequently struck over them. I presume the bolt is original, but take a look at the acceptance and such please.

That stock :hail:! You hit a home run with that one Clay! The second strike on the stock number is very common on wartime Erfurts I’ve seen a lot of them. I had 1916 Erfurt gew 98 where the double strike was nearly identical to yours. Bolt is perfect as well.

Thanks guys! Every once in a while I see a striped stock in a period photo and wonder what that rifle must look like. As soon as I saw this one, I knew it was coming home with me!

That’s interesting Sam, was that one a depot rifle as well, or do you think it’s just a curiosity of production?

Nice rifle, stock has the right acceptance for range. Certainly correct. Do the underside of the bolt handle?

I didn’t have much of a close up of the bolt, here are some more.

No mine never passed through a depot, I think it’s a nuance of Erfurt’s crudeness. Which is my favorite thing about them!

That’s interesting Sam! I’m home now and finally got to see that stock out in the sun. :biggrin1:

WOW Clay! That is an amazing piece of lumber there brother! That's some fiddleback IMO. Beautiful and I can now see why you knew it was coming home with you.

For an idea of how this stuff is coveted and valued...
