I don’t really do 3R bayonets for some reason, but I picked up what I guess would be my first “nice” K98k blade on a whim.

A fine start I would say. Not sure on rarity but,a 1937 E. Pack with the S/code is not an easy find. I can not recall ever seeing a `37 S/177 for sale and the k98.free.fr. does not have one listed.
I love the prewar S84/98 III bayonets. Thanks for sharing.

It was a shot in the dark for me really. Looked nice but went in with conflicting info, so I was a little embarrassed to have made an impulsive purchase. I’ve since read the accessories chapter of Vol 1 and gotten at least a baseline of knowledge.

A fine entry into bayonets!! Man the blades are so nice on the early ones. You have to feel honoured to get stuck by such fine craftsmanship.

Certainly nice condition piece, the S/177 of 1937 are scarce, i assume max 30000 made, frog is Max Koberstein, Landsberg an der Warthe 1942.

Very nice Blade on that 37. That is a fine start. You don't usually fine them like that.

I’m sure it spent most of its life in the scabbard.

That and someone took care of it, with no over cleaning The wear to the blue on the pommel ads to it`s appearance. The grips are in really good condition and lots of blue on that cross guard. The wear to the scabbard would be no problem for me. I bet that dent on the front of the scabbard looks worse in the pics than it does in hand. And, it being a hard to find S/code......
If you ever want to sell it let me know, lol.

Yes, the dent appears worse because there is more remaining blue in the now protected area. Thanks for the feedback!

My search continues and (other than a couple of miss-matched examples or pieces with armorer replacement scabbards). I only need four more code variants to at least have one of each S-Code, manufacturer name, or alpha code...S177, S240, S241 & the Ferlach trade-mark which resembles the letters "OMC"...

Very nice pre-war piece and a great 'first' example! I didn't realize just how scare these were (thanks Andy). Great pickup!
