E.L.24m.M. question...

Has anyone a theory about why some of these floorplate inserts were "scruubed" and subsequently remarked with the Erma nomenclature?

Thanks for replying. For whatever reason, I don't always see the replies when I log onto the forum again. Perhaps it's just inattention on my part...

Anyway, what I'm referring to is this: If you look closely at the two examples, there are horizontal striations in the areas of the letters "M" and "U", and the numeral "3". These are under the blued finish, and seem indicative of "scrubbing" prior to being remarked with the die that produces the "ERMA ERFURT/year" marking.

On some examples I've seen, this apparent scrubbing is much more pronounced. A dished-out hollow is actually produced, as if done by offhand grinding against an open wheel.

Thanks!

Richie
