Erfurt Gew91

flynaked

Repo Field Gear Collector
I picked this one up in the Texas Hill Country, which is cool to me, as my family is historically from the region, as my Grandfather settled the town of New Braunfels. This year I’ve been searching for Sauers, but God keeps giving me Erfurts, so I guess I’ll take what I can get haha. Let me know if you’d like pictures of anything else, but I probably won’t be breaking it down.

That's a nice one Clay! Those little Gew91 carbines can be quite elusive here in the states. Congratulations buddy.

That's a damn nice example Clay! Great score!

Very nice example, to bad no unit marking! I added it to the trends thread, which I noticed followed an abbreviated format... might try and extend the data covered.

Very familiar with New Braunfels, been there dozens of times, practically lived at the truck stop across from the Walmart distribution center, back in the truck driving days, it was a regular stop a couple decades ago. Use to be a good place to visit, lots to do, didn't know G91's roamed around loose!

How's the bore?

I'm learning to reload, I'll mail you some of my home brewed ammo to try out. I bet we can get this thing to group well off the bench.

Thanks guys!

tY, the bore is sharp and bright, I’m excited to try out some of those fancy compressed loads.

That’s awesome Paul! Before there was a Walmart, here’s what it looked like! Haha. My Grandfather is in this photo.

I wonder how long it took them to find out those wool suits where not a good idea for summer ? I would like to hear the details of the " compressed load " for 88's .

Hopefully not long lol.

HM, he came from Bremen to the port in Corpus Christi in 1845, I don’t know the date of this picture but I can’t imagine it’s long after that. He was a captain in the North Sea and a Texas Ranger.

Wow that's almost movie worthy. Great stuff. My 'name' story is mostly more mundane. Left Vento region right when the First War of Independence was kicking off and ended up at Ellis Island in 1848. Jersey City and there they stayed. Metal workers mostly occasionally skipping a generation and male sibling. Kept the surname but not much I-talian.

Very nice Gew 91 indeed. Also pretty incredible that after 170+ years only one generation of your family separates you from him!

Well, I was wondering how old you were and how that could be possible. My Grandfather was an adult in the 19th century, but just barely. He married in his 40's to my much younger Grandmother. I read that the last known widow of a Civil War veteran just died in 2008, so a couple such scenarios could cover quite a bit of that territory!
