SS tanker unit deaths head Luger

Not sure I shared this in the past, a deaths head marked luger holster from a very old collection. I did pick some other things out of the collection and it had some outstanding items. This one through me off with the DH stamp to the rear, but I am really a novice with these things.

Some photos to share.

Great holster and a great illustration of why I think these holsters are marked with these skulls.

These large skulls are acceptance stamps, not property markings. These holsters were built or purchased outside of the HWA system, so the SS had to inspect these holsters for quality, etc. themselves.

This particular holster was part of the SS 1938 contract with H.Eger and Linde. All of the police style holsters are from this maker, certainly the result of the SS leveraging their control of the police (and their logistical and purchase systems) to skirt around the Army, who did not allow to SS to contact for their own equipment.

Obviously this was originally accepted by the Police inspectors but was routed on to the SS instead (maybe a production overrun). The SS then "cancelled out" the police acceptance by overstamping it with this depot skull. We see this on early K98k spare barrels sent to the SS also. Most of these SS H.Eger and Linde holsters don't have this extra skull since they lack the police acceptance.

A really great example. Thanks for posting this!

I wondered the reason for the 2nd DH on the back and could see 'something' underneath it. Sounds like you're on to something here. Anyway thanks for the continued information.

Its faint and yes Police eagle can be seen. I was thinking the same way about why. Ryan explained it quite well. Wish I could find a good photo of the case for a set of Rukka SS Dienstglas as its the same exact stamp used on the top of the leather case.

Coincidence - look what I've been shown that had turned up on a German attic! Identically twice stamped with Deaths Head, same maker, same brown color.

Excellent. Note it also has police acceptance under the rear DH. I didn't have much doubt this variation was legit, but this confirms it IMO.

If this information is of any value at all, the holster I posted pics of sold for € 750. I passed, this is in my opinion too much money for the really poor condition it is in.

*edit* forum change killed the € sign to weird text. I corrected it.

Turned up in Germany. First time I see a DH stamped center and not on right side. I wonder what you think of it.
