1915 Danzig a warhorse

Picked this one up yesterday, all matching down to the rod and a bit salty but honest. The firing pin is clipped and what is most interesting to me is this one has a Latin style suffix instead of a script suffix. I’m quite pleased with this one overall and this makes my 10th Imperial Gew 98.

What a fine rifle for spot #10! Very elusive this original, - matched to stock or bolt for any 1915 is elusive, both is rare... I doubt I have recorded more than 6-7 (and fewer still fully confirmed to acceptance and authenticity).

This rifle is very near the end of the line for Danzig-15, only 3 recorded higher and the highest is a 1643/x, a pretty sorry example out of Spain, but has exact same RR but with an intertwined BS on the barrel shoulder (which pretty much excludes some of the more elaborate theories behind the marking I think...). Anyway, very rare in this condition, even though Danzig seems to have been second highest maker of the G98 in 1915, - DWM was highest and considering their line up, quality and consistency reflects why they were the best maker, with only WMO in competition (they made a little less than Danzig in 1915, but close...)

If you can, take a shot of the wrist acceptance, the small of the stock, I would like to document this as it is a feature not overwhelmingly defined. Really any 1915 in this sort of state is rather rare and I have not had nearly as many opportunities to fully document patterns to set trends firmly (it is one thing to get RR and range data, it is another to get full stock acceptance patterns and bolt body acceptance...)

Paul, thank you as always for your informative insight. Anyhow I swore I included a picture of the wrist acceptance but I guess I didn’t yesterday. Here it is now.
