K98 BYF Gun Safe Queen...Thoughts?

Don’t pull her out very often, acquired it some years ago, but trying to get some reasonable thoughts. May be in the market to sell it, so trying to get even a value as well. It is all matching.

Hi stahltrent, the metal parts look really fresh, but your handguard has a much darker color than the stock, right ?

Here are some additional photos, but yes the hand guard is much darker oddly enough. It is matching however, see the attached photo.

Are the fonts on the serials okay here or has GB jaded me to the point of no return?

Here are some additional photos that might help clarify. I’m pretty certain it’s not a fake as it came off of a veterans fireplace mantel after he had passed. He was the one who brought it back.

the photos aren't the best but, at the least the stock has been worked over and the side proof re-struck.

Here are some better pictures of the stock markings. The stock I don’t believe was ever sanded. He said that he had wiped it down with something because after he had it over his mantle the heat made linseed oil or whatever was in the wood weep out. I’m assuming he used denatured alcohol? Unfortunately, when he told me this I gasped, but I guess who would have known the collectibility years ago right?

Looks nice and textbook to me from what I see, including the side WaA135. Congrats. Takedown discs were cleaned, but it's a very nice byf 44.

Looks legit to me, can't be absolutely certain without having it in hand, but I'm voting that it's the real deal.
I especially love that it's got the scarce stamp and weld front band without the re-enforcement bumps.

better photos helped.. looks good maybe gently cleaned..

Agree with the cleaned wood and some of the metal appearing a bit too shiny. Is it just me or does the byf 44 stamping look a little washed out as if polished and reblued in this area. Hopefully it's just the flash in the photos.

What scarce stamp are you referring to? Also, what is the significance behind the welded front band?

Here are some more photos of the bluing and markings.

In talking about the front band he meant scarce (stamp and weld). It was one of the intermediate techniques they tried to speed up production. This was short lived (hence his use of the term 'scarce') in the production span.

Oh, that’s a neat fact. Thanks for clarifying!
