I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to purchase this rifle recently. My friend and a member here on the forum, went to the Tulsa show. He ended up purchasing a really nice P38 and a K98 from a collector there, this collector mentioned that he had a few other K98k’s that he didn’t bring to the show and offered to email Larry photos of the other rifles. This was one of the rifles. When I was evaluating this rifle, I looked in the book and discovered that this rifle is the example in the book, page 396-397, at one point this was Bob in OHIO’s rifle. Since the rifle was in Bob’s possession, I see that someone at some point changed the locking screws out. The photos in the book have e/63 locking screws, it now has e/280. Maybe someone could comment on weather the early Borsigwalde rifles might have some e/63 parts means they were an Oberndorf satellite. The rifle now also has a 97 numbered rod which would be matching, but there are not waffernts on the rod. On an early rod like this, wouldn’t the rod be marked e/280 with 97 if it were original to the rifle from the time that it left the factory? I decided to post the rifle means it doesn’t look like Bob in OHIO ever posted it. I know there are photos in the book, but I really like to look at photos of other forum members rifles on my large flat computer screen. The rifles stock has a really great look to it, like alot of the early prewar walnut K98's do. The extra e/280 barrel inspection is kinda a neat feature to this rifle as well as the e/211 to e/280 transition. If someone wants to see a feature not photoed, please ask and I will provide.
