Barrel stamp questions, on byf 42

Hello, I was looking at a byf42 and the barrel was throwing me off. Where the serial number is, is a single #4. The fp looks like a Weimar eagle, but it looks different, maybe a depot mark? It seems like I have seen one on here before but don't remember. The barrel code that I can see has a G 107 with a smaller 40, so 1940? I don't see a 0'2 stamp. I'm wondering if this is a sporter rescue with a replaced barrel. Any thoughts?Screenshot_20230114_161459_DuckDuckGo.jpgScreenshot_20230114_165053_DuckDuckGo.jpgScreenshot_20230114_165257_DuckDuckGo.jpg

That looks like a Luft depot mark to me. I’m no depot expert though.
I think you are correct. I searched here and a post on Gew98 that had a Luft 4 depot mark on the barrel. But on that one the 4 was under the depot stamp. Also the serial number on the barrel. So a few differences. I know that the serial numbers at some point were not applied to the barrel, but not exactly sure when. The receiver is in the CC letter block.

It's an LZA rework (possibly Erding). These that have the 4 next to the stamp don't have a barrel serial and are far less common. I assume these are later war repairs.

Here is another similar:

Also, on occasion, LZA 4 would grind off the 0,2. Don't ask me why.

Thanks Ryan, I know you know a lot about the depot rifles. The rifle in question has the front of the stock cut off in front of the lower band. The stock doesn't look sanded though but no external markings. The serial number in the barrel channel doesn't match the receiver. The trigger guard matches the stock numbers. What's strange is the floor plate matches the numbers on the receiver. So not sure what's going on with the numbers. Bolt supposedly matches itself. Seller is asking $700 for it.

700 isn't bad these days. It would be a shooter, so as long as the bore is decent.

The bore doesn't look great. But the seller says it has been sitting for along time and he has never shot it or cleaned the barrel. So it could possibly clean up.

Hopefully I'll get the transfer done before this State implements measure 114! The State just asked the Oregon Supreme Court to start implementing it now. It's been held up from starting in court.

Oh sorry about that! He told me last night that he had someone say that they would take it. He said he would let know in the morning if he had heard from the first person. Then he messaged me that the rifle was mine if I wanted it. Screenshot_20230115_133643_DuckDuckGo.jpg

I had infact gotten back with him and asked him for his payment info, but I guess you were willing to pay more so he went with you. Again, I am not mad at you. Happy to see it go to someone who wont throw some fake numbers on it and put it on gunbonkers for 4 grand :ROFLMAO:

Ah it just bothers me to know it was someone from here. I buy a lot but I hardly ever sell anything. My wife says I'm a hoarder!

If I decide to sell it, I'll make sure I contact you first 😉!
