byf 42 post war rework

Picked this one up 13-14 years ago along with another rework. Curious as to the barrel proofing on this one. Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks Ryan. I was leaning toward W. German.
Some of the pics were too large to load. The other rifle is a byf41, both have this same cleaning rod. Due the the size of the head a bayonet won’t fit. Was that something the W. Germans did on purpose?

I'd guess the cleaning rod is not German.

Looks a lot like one of mine (https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/bgs-issue-k98.21710/). Lots of info in this thread, and my conclusion regarding its history. Second page has versions of the images without the photobucket logo plastered all over them. Can’t speak to the cleaning rod question, though. Mine is standard.

Thanks mos. Great info! My other rework is a byf43 , mostly original matching, force matched bolt, French sling bar but the stock and handguard are original matching. It does not have the Belgian proofing on the barrel. It does have the same type cleaning rod as the OP rifle above. Very interesting topic.
