Commercial Mauser Gewehr 98?

Dear colleagues,
a rather interesting rifle has been offered to me. It is a Gewehr 98 with a Lange rear sight in 8x57 IS. However, it has commercial-style marking: a Mauser barrel on the receiver and a Mauser barrel on the stock.
I only have the attached photos for the moment, but I am very curious regarding the rifle. Has anyone seen such a rifle? Would you know for whom it was destined?
I am waiting to import it now, so once it arrives, I will post more detailed photos.

Are you 100% sure it’s in 8mm Mauser? My guess would be it’s a Wehrmansgewehr target rifle, and those are usually in 8.15x46r , an old low pressure target round.

Any chance the seller included pics of the bolt face? That would answer it pretty quickly.

They did not. But I would be surprised if that were the case as the seller is a gunsmith.
Plus, the Wehrmannsgewehr rifles in 8,15x46 R are single shot, right? This one was listed as a 5 round repeating rifle. That's why I'm confused...

Would the bore diameter marked on the barrel fit the 8,15x46 R?

I posted this one before, when I first got it in 2014. Found it at a local gun store. It was dry, had some surface rust, and a cutdown stock, but it was matching and actually in wonderful shape under the dust and rust. Here are the initial photos and some very helpful information from Jon Speed...
