Well, didn't expect this to happen after I already had lucked into a Danuvia 43M submachine gun last year (see this thread here: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/danuvia-43m-submachine-gun.44464/ ) that already the following year I'd be as lucky as to find the much rarer encountered 39M ancestor. But in a recent estate there was one, plus I managed to get a deal done on all items so I could get this one back from Police and avoid this one either going into a governmental (museum) storage or being scrapped.
Anyway, attached are some pictures of it. What those don't show is the direct comparison with the 43M. To my surprise the 39M is maybe 10cm longer than the 43M. Both the butt stock is longer, as well as the barrel and the front stock end being longer. The action however seems to be almost identical.
Note the particular shown 39M has an incorrect 43M magazine in it. That magazine can be locked, but as illustrated in the images the top raises far too high into the action so feeding is impossible. Finally, I digitally removed the last two digits of the serial. Speaking of the serial, while the one on the action remained in the same place on both the 39M and 43M it is interesting to note the 39M has the serial much larger on the right side of the butt stock whereas the 43M has the serial rather small stamped right under the receiver serial on the left side.
Also took out the bolt. Very simple construction and in my point of view a very clever design. It does not surprise me this MP performed very well during WWII and was beloved by those who had it - only the 9mm Mauser ammo is said to have been tough to get. It is quite large, much larger than most machine pistols. Actually it is size-wise very similar to the MP44/StG44.
PS: if someone has a correct magazine to the 39M or leads to one, I'd highly appreciate it!
