Good way to remove a stock.

Hello, a few days ago I got my first k98. I’ve been wanting to take the stock off so I can take a look to see there is any marking on the inside. I’m a little hesitant though. I’m worried I’ll damage the stock. I had a bad experience in the past with a stock removal going wrong. Anyone know of any good material to help loosen it up so I don’t risk that happening? Any answers is greatly appreciated. :)

First and foremost obtain proper gunsmithing screwdrivers. Then pick the driver that fits the slot the best ( both length and width.) Find a disassembly video on YouTube that shows the exact procedure. Its much easier then describing.

Thanks, maybe I’m overreacting a little bit. But last year my brother and I removed the stock on his all matching type 56 SKS that was in near mint condition. Well the lets just say the stock snapped. I’ve been a little hesitant ever since.

for those who have done it often, it’s not hard, but it's also not hard to ding the wood & leave idiot marks behind, if unskilled & in a hurry.

gunsmith screw driver tips have a special shape to fit the special slots in gun screws, which are not tapered, like almost all other straight slotted screws on everything else, which are tapered top to bottom.

If you “snapped” the stock on an SKS, definitely put the weapon on a padded table to work on, not between 2 chairs while standing on it🙄
