Hello everyone! I am in Italy and I bought a Portuguese contract Kar98, I wanted to have information from those who are more experienced than me and if it is a good weapon, I paid 790 euros including the bayonet, is it an honest price?

the weapon has the "main" serial number H10556 (including the fore-end), while the stock and the back are registered G12705

how does it look to you?

Thank you all! :)

sorry my english...

I don't know the European market. I'm guessing it might sell in the US for $600-700. The barreled action looks okay. The stock is a bit worn in places. If not a deco, then it could have value as a shooter too. Everything looks correct. Just, as you mentioned, the stock and its components are from an earlier Portuguese contract rifle. I like the Portuguese contract rifles but it seems likely they frequently don't get the same love and respect as wartime German Kar.98k's. I know some of the Portuguese rifles stayed in Germany and saw action, but these seem to be the exception more than the rule.

Your English is fine!
I believe the markings above the serial number on the receiver are a civilian ‘reproof’ marking, applied in the early 1980’s, possibly when the rifle was offered for sale or exported from (West) Germany.
‘eagle over N’ meaning ‘for smokeless powder’ and the shield mark for the Munich proof house, ‘3 81’ indicating March 1981.

Is it then possible that the rifle remained in Germany and did not go to Portugal? seen the civilian punches of the monaco bench?

I'm sure this rifle went to Portugal and came back when the Portuguese sold their stuff in the 70ies and the 80ies. Nearly all had the same service history, were stored under the same conditions and so they all look quite the same. Perhaps the stock was damaged beyond repair so it got replaced.
I am not familiar with the prices on the Italian market but as long as the bore is good I think the price is, in the end, ok.

Have much fun!

I believe all is reported already, same opinion about the piece went from Portugal, from this You should find a H range Mo937B bayonet for it, as this bayonet was destined for Wehrmacht Kar98k, was made by Coppel GmbH in 1942, that condition and matching piece is in 150 or more worth itself.

Can you tell me what those numbers on the barrel are? (41E22)
