Stock code Br 1 22 1941
Glue code 'P' on bottom.

Hi, I have a laminate stock with code Br 4 30 43 under the cupped butt plate. There are no other visible codes I can make out on the beat up stock, other than the serial number in the barrel well and handguard. 2332 with an X suffix. Its on a BCD 4 barreled action that is all metal matching including bolt, from the X block, but a mismatch to the stock/handguard.

Is this the correct stock for a Gustloff BCD 4, even though its mismatched?

I'd also like know who made the stock and/or any other information you can ascertain from the pics.

I'm new to this forum and to K98s. This gun is a bring back from Germany from WW2 by my uncle, which I inherited and am now trying to figure out what I have. Any help would be appreciated.

I just purchased a correct sight hood from a forum member, but am also looking for a period correct cleaning rod and sling to bring the gun back up to 1944 period correctness. The gun was missing all of these when I got it.

I've inherited as well as been collecting WW1 and WW2 handguns, but now am looking at rifles. This is my first (so far!) K98. These pieces of history need to be preserved!

Pics attached.

Thanks.

Cool. So a correct stock for a Gustloff rife. Any idea who made the stock? Does the Br indicate Berlin? I've read something to that effect on this forum.

Here are more pics of the stock and gun. The only lower case letter I can find is on 1 side of the recoil lug.

Here's an album of my stock and some stamps, hope it helps in some way?

(forgot to add the blank shot under the buttplate)

5 (something?) 45 would be 5th day of ? week in 1945. Br is laminate supplier code. Photo of the front of the stock and barrel band area on the right side? Also I'm going to assume there's a hole drilled in the stock where the bottom of the butt plate sits that's just outside the shot in your photo #3. Anything the stock barrel channel?

Nothing found in the barrel channel. Maybe in ‘45 left the bolt disassembly ring because the manufacturing was easier?

It would be farther up in the barrel channel if anything was there. Yes is considered 'semi-Kriegsmodell' as while it did eliminate the takedown disk replacing it with a simple hole, the front arrangement with bayonet lug and band spring remained. This would be a very late Gustloff stock with no stock final acceptance. Is there a 'C' on the keel behind the trigger guard cutout?

1945 BCD 4, numbers matching. Heer marked stock.

Stock has “pha 2 31 4” only mark in the barrel channel is a waffenamt stamp, has a C on the midway between the grip and heel of the stock.

Any additional info would be great, I’m always interested in learning about my rifle.

pha would be the stock supplier code, 2nd day of 31st week of 1944, which if I've learned it correctly is Tuesday August 1st 1944.
(German weeks start on Monday, 1st week of year begins the 1st Monday)

Nice find!

Nice! Would it be the correct stock for the bcd 4 rifle it came on?

At least 'reasonably plausible', as there would be some lag time between when the stock was produced & then assembled into a rifle. I don't recall when bcd dropped the e/H, or may have brought it back again.
Alright thank you! What is the e/H? I know the bolt has some e marked parts but I’m still learning what I can. Is the stock maker code known?

you mentioned that the stock was “Heer marked”. That would mean that the right side of the butt is marked with a capital ‘H’ with an eagle over it under the takedown disc.

I get Monday, July 31. I think the only correction to your above is that the first week of the year is the one that contains the 4th.
