Here’s a not so common accessory. The leather rear sight cover for the K98k. Purported to be used by motorized troops.
Most covers that are seen are all 1942 dated. There are reports of the covers being seen in the pre-war era too though.
The metal hardware had two types of main variations. The first, was a type of black paint. The second, was the lighter grey phosphated(?), or some type of zinc finish.
This one appears to be a transitional piece. It has the two variations of metal.
